ABOUT
Hi! My name is Bennet and I'm a recent graduate from Carleton College in Northfield, MN, with a degree in Cinema & Media Studies (CAMS). I consider myself a filmmaker because my education has taught me essential skills in the filmmaking pipeline: screenwriting, directing, cinematography, and editing. It also reconnected me with my childhood interest in drawing, through storyboarding, which was a deciding factor for me dropping my Computer Science degree for CAMS. Being able to imagine different varieties of a potential shot in your head, put it down on paper, and see how it shapes or reshapes itself through directing, cinematography, and editing felt good after I shot my first short film. Since then, I have poured myself into any project to improve my skills because I want to use this medium to tell stories I truly care about.
I'm currently working on two screenplays all based on true stories. One is a short film about a tragic event that happened to two of my friends, and the other is a tv pilot based on my experience navigating the socio-political crises in Cameroon, from its start in 2016 till when I left for college in 2021 (It's still ongoing). I'm also editing a documentary I shot about the filmmaking process at LIDENFILMS, an animation studio in Tokyo, Japan. Initially, I went there to investigate the cultural, economic, and political factors that affect the poor work conditions of Japanese animators but none of the animators I spoke with wanted to talk about it. It's an issue I have researched for a long time and care deeply about, but I realized I had to do an in-depth study before tackling it in the future.
